HUMAN DEVELOPMENT ISSUES ADDRESSED AT ECONOMIC FORUM

After President’s opening speech Arnaud Soirat, Copper and Diamonds chief executive at Rio Tinto, made a key presentation ‘Cooperation for success’. He noted that the key factor to the country’s sustainable economic and social development is synergism of public, private and civil society. “Since 2010 Oyu Tolgoi LLC has spent USD 7.5 billion on domestic suppliers, salaries and taxes," He also noted opportunities for Mongolia to intensify the development and increase investment will be greater when the parties reinforce the cooperation.  Mr.Arnaud Soirat mentioned the achievements and opportunities for the company, saying that in the future Oyu Tolgoi could play critical role in smart phones and electrical car businesses.

The ‘Mongolia’s development model’ general session participants emphasized that three-pillar policy should be considered as a development model for Mongolia. The panelists stressed the importance of political stability and sustainable policy. They also mentioned that the policies must be based on scientific research and that country needs a sustainable development institution, noting empowerment of the National Development Agency.

Issues regarding educational system, unemployment, poverty were addressed during the ‘Human development: From welfare to productivity’ discussion. Representatives of relevant ministries, economists and experts reached to the conclusion that the welfare system must be revised and proposed their solutions on that matter.
